(KNSI) – St. Cloud Park and Recreation is planning its first-ever Pop-Up Splash Pad event on Saturday, July 15th.

Recreation Programmer Cassie Woischke says it will be held 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Centennial Park. The event is about having fun and cooling down in the heart of summer, but Woischke says there is a deeper meaning.

“[It’s] just a good engagement opportunity for people to get to know our local heroes, essentially. The police department is bringing out a squad car, possibly doing some K9 demonstrations. The fire department will be out there. They’re bringing their tower truck. They’ll spray over the parking lot.”

Woischke says the event is free for the public and it doesn’t break the bank as part of the city’s budget. There will also be yard games and other activities to enjoy. No registration is required.

Woischke says the Park and Recreation Department does most of its events at Lake George and Whitney Park, but they are looking to branch out. Centennial fits well for this outing.

“Centennial is honestly [because of] the location but also the size of the parking lot because there’s enough parking around there to do an event like this.”

Centennial is located about a block north of Veterans Drive, between 17th and 20th Avenues. If it’s a success, another event could be planned for early fall.
