(KNSI) – The City of Sartell is reminding people to use municipal parking lots if they intend to check out the new pedestrian span at the white truss bridge, rather than the one owned by a local restaurant.

Right now, overlooks and a place to cast your fishing rod are available on the river crossing. The eventual plan for the bridge will connect it to property on the east side with a trail network. Mayor Ryan Fitzthum told KNSI News earlier this month that he expects people to be able to walk along the east side of the Mississippi River until near the Sartell dam. The path may evolve to allow bikes as well.

If that vision becomes reality, the pedestrian span would be open to several activities that take a significant amount of time to complete. Next to the pedestrian bridge is the Riverboat Depot restaurant. City officials say its parking lot should be left for patrons only. They do not want those spots to be tied up for hours with the restaurant seeing no benefit.

Watab Creek Park is nearby and there are options for motorists there to leave their vehicles, with a crosswalk that takes you across Riverside Avenue safely.
