(KNSI) – The first-ever Sabre Alumni and Friends Cross Country meet is scheduled for Saturday, August 5th.

With the starting gun set for 9:00 a.m., the event hopes to celebrate the program’s tradition, rekindle friendships between old teammates and coaches, and have fun competing on the team’s home course. It is open to cross country alumni, their families, and graduates of Sartell High School who were not on the team.

Registration costs $25 and there is a virtual option for those who are spread out across the country and unable to get back home. There is a post-race reception planned with a raffle and other giveaways at the course. Happy hour at Blue Line Sports Bar and Grill is later in the afternoon, beginning at 4:00.

Proceeds will benefit the Rustie Froemming Memorial Scholarship fund. Coach Froemming was an assistant coach for decades and he was a business teacher before dying unexpectedly in 2020 at 58 years old. The scholarship supports two graduating seniors each year. The event will help fundraise for the award that goes to a cross country runner. The fund also helps a student heading to college to major in business.

You can donate even if you are not part of the race and beanie hats are being sold at an online store here. If you are a former runner, join the Sabre CC Alumni Facebook group and spread the word. Register for the race here.
