(KNSI) — The National Weather Service has issued a dense fog advisory until 11:00 Saturday morning.

Forecasters say visibilities are less than a quarter mile, creating dangerous driving conditions. Pockets of mist and drizzle will also be mixed in with the fog.

The Minnesota State Patrol says to slow down, allow extra time to get where you’re going, turn on your headlights and leave plenty of distance ahead of you today.

Gloomy is the name of the game starting Friday. It also marks the start of an interesting and active weather pattern, depending on where you’re traveling.

Friday will be mild, with highs in the 40s. After morning fog Saturday, the area may see some peeks of sun in the afternoon with a high in the mid 40s. A wet pattern moves in for Christmas Eve, and record setting temps aren’t out of the question.

According to climate data from St. Cloud State University, the record high for December 24th is 43, set in 1994. The predicted high temp for now is 48. It won’t be the 48 degree weather you can take a walk in, though, unless you like walking in the rain and the wind. Rain is likely with winds out of the southeast at 10 to 15 miles an hour. The wind will switch in the afternoon, coming from the north/northwest. Although still in the low 30s, Sunday night will be blustery as the winds will come directly out of the north at 15 to 20 miles an hour. Gusts up to 30 are possible. There’s also a chance for a rain and snow mix, but little to no accumulation is expected.

Christmas Day, there’s a chance for snow early, with rain snow mix, changing to all snow Monday night. The 47 degree record for that day will stand. The high is forecast to be in the upper 30s.
