SAUK CENTRE, Minn. (KNSI) Dave Gamradt is certainly no politician. In fact, he's been farming in the Sauk Centre area for 43 years. But these days, he finds himself balancing chores with some campaigning.

Gamradt is running for the open District 5 seat on the Stearns County Board of Commissioners. That seat was held by Don Otte of Sauk Centre, who died of cancer in August. Gamradt and Otte were longtime friends. In fact, Gamradt used to campaign for Otte, and if elected, Gamradt says he knows he has some big shoes to fill.

Gamradt says Otte, "hard working, fair, and a good listner," and "always looked at both sides of an issue."

Gamradt's opponent for the open seat is former Freeport City Councilmember Steve Notch. Gamradt says regardless of who wins Tuesday's special election, "the voters of District 5 will be in good hands."

Polls are open from 7 am to 8 pm for voters in western Stearns County.
