As we stare at the snow banks, drive on the icy roads and get more frustrated that global warming can't possibly be real, quietly the boys of summer have already been hard at it. Even with the official arrival of spring only getting here this week, Saint Cloud State baseball is already well into their season. And as usual, they are off to a solid start. The Huskies are 9-2 at the time of this article and are ranked as high as #8 in the numerous national polls.
Since the hiring of current head coach Pat Dolan, the program has had a revival and is now an annual power both in the NSIC and nationally. Dolan has done it with an unbelievable work ethic and a knack for keeping local talent right here in central Minnesota. It is easy to forget about this group at this time of the year. They are either road tripping to actual climates that allow for baseball or waking up as early as 4am to go play doubleheaders at 7am at the MetroDome.
They are worth the price of admission and when Ma Nature finally releases us from this Siberian winter, the boys of summer will finally get to play some ball at home at the MAC. Great talent, solid baseball, plenty of local and regional players and a team that legitimately has their eyes on conference titles and a run at a national championship make a day at the ballpark a great and affordable option for area sports fans. Here's hoping they keep it rolling. Good luck Huskies.
