ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - St. Cloud State University's basketball squads have identical 8-1 records after racking up another pair of wins Saturday afternoon against the University of Mary. The women's squad reached triple digits for the only time all year in a 100-80 victory, while the men cruised in the second half to an 80-55 win in the evening cap.
In the women's victory, senior guard Sam Price reached a milestone as she surpassed 1,000 career points. Price is the 27th player in school history to reach this mark and the most recent since Talisha Barlow in 2011. Price went nine of 19 from the field, drained three shots from behind the arc, and hit seven of seven free throw attempts. She finished with 28 points, marking her new career-high, previously set at 25.
Five additional Huskies scored in double-digits in the victory.
Lexy Petermann finished with 15 points on seven of 13 shooting. Jessica Benson grabbed her sixth double-double of the season, finishing with 12 points and a career-high 18 rebounds (10 on the offensive end). Benson also added a team-high five assists.
Freshman guard Betsy MacDonald who went seven of seven from three-point range last night, kept the momentum going as she drained her first three in a row tonight and finished four of six from behind the arc to add 12 points.
Meanwhile, in men's action, St. Cloud State junior center James Fort led all players with 13 points, making six of nine field goal attempts.
First-year guard Scottie Stone had 12 points and four rebounds, and posted his fourth straight game scoring in double figures. Sophomore guard Jordan Poydras also scored in double figures as he finished the game with 11 points and a career high seven assists.
Senior center Chris Larson equaled his career high with five blocked shots and scored a season high ten points. While junior guard Kevin Levandoski was the leading rebounder for the Huskies as he pulled in five boards, had four assists and three steals.
St. Cloud State will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 21 as they travel to the University of Minnesota Duluth. Leighton Broadcasting coverage begins next Saturday at 1:30 on AM 1180 KYES.
